Thinking of moving to a self-hosted blog

I’m thinking about self-hosting my blog instead of using WordPress.com. This is because I would like to be able to place my own advertisement and also to better control the functioning and options of my blog, which is currently very limited with WordPress.com

I’ve consulted a few interesting articles on the topic:

It seems like I should go with either DreamHost or Hostinger. Both are very cheap web hosts, but I need to understand what the differences between hosts are.

Most hosting companies have very similar features (bandwidth/data transfer, disk storage/space, database limits, automatic backups), so I’m not really sure what I should be looking for when deciding on a host. I’m not sure if price alone is a good indicator of the quality?

I guess I’ll have to try a few hosting providers and find out for myself.
